2018 Conference Field Trips

This year we are excited to offer two optional field trips for all our conference attendees. There are plenty of interesting sights and scenes around campus, Chapel Hill, and Carrboro, so feel free to explore on your own!

OPTION 1 | Carrboro Farmers’ Market

Join local GAFS board members for a casual tour of the Saturday morning Carrboro Farmers’ Market.

WHEN: Starts at 7:00 AM (the market runs from 7:00 AM-12:00 PM)

WHERE: Carrboro Town Hall Plaza, 301 W Main St., Carrboro, NC  (meet at the entrance of the plaza)

WHAT: Learn about the historic market, our local farmers, and BYO breakfast and coffee before heading back for the last few conference panels.

OPTION 2 | Campus Foodways and Food History Digital Tour

Explore our local campus foodways at your own pace with a self-guided digital tour. This map features a mix of historical and contemporary examples of important food related sites for students, staff, faculty, and citizens of the area.  Be sure to stop along the way for a cup of coffee or a biscuit before heading back to the conference.

HOW TO USE THE MAP: As you walk around campus, click on the red circle icons or open up the entire foodways trail by clicking on the small arrow-box icon in the top left corner of the map. Each location includes a bit of history, current affairs, and links to more information and visuals.
